It’s definitely still hot and humid in Chicago, but there have been a few days that gave us a taste of fall. It’s making me anxious to pull back out my jeans and sweaters, and some more in-between clothes.
But why on Earth would anyone spends hundreds of dollars on new pieces for fall? These are the pieces I’m hoping to add to my wardrobe for fall — and I don’t plan on spending more than $10 on any piece!
Let me start with the top and work my way down 🙂
A knit beanie or beret (in a neutral color) is one of my favorite accessories for fall because it keeps my warm without making me hot.

I’m a big fan of basics when it comes to accessories. Even though this scarf has some color, it will pair nicely with lots of other clothes I have.

I’ve had my eye on one of these short sleeve hoodies. They seemed counterproductive at first, but then I realized it’s another one of those “in between” pieces that’ll keep me warm.

This is probably the item I’m most excited about. I’ve been looking for the perfect buffalo check shirt for years to no avail, but maybe this is the year!

It’s weird, but I’ve been having to make a real effort lately to inject some color in my wardrobe. Maybe I’m just gearing up for cloudier days? Either way, a bright orange dress will add some color and still feel fall-ish.

Is it just me, or does this purse just look like fall? I’d love to add a purse or even boots in this rich, cognac color (def not paying $400 for a purse though — whoa!).

I’m still skeptical about boyfriend style jeans, but am warming up to the idea and want to give them a try. I’m even thinking of just getting a pair of men’s jeans and doing a little DIY. Hmm, we’ll see.

To top (bottom?) it all off, a classic pair of black flats. Honestly, I’ve had my eye on a pair at J.Crew, but I’m not so in love with the price. Maybe I’ll catch a good sale and add them to my wardrobe.

So that’s what I’m thinking will take my wardrobe from summer to fall. Looking forward to updating this when I’ve had a chance to hit the thrift stores 🙂
What’s your favorite fall trend?

That bright orange dress is such an unexpected statement for fall. It’s perfect, though, because it’s like the leaves! I purchased a pair of Straight-style destroyed jeans at American Eagle as a copycat to boyfriend jean look and I’m really happy with it. They aren’t super baggy (and unflattering like some bf jeans), but they still fall on the looser side.
Oooh! I think I’ll have to give that boyfriend jean “trick” a try. I like the look, but agree that I don’t want something TOO baggy.
