Do you have leftover holiday candy sitting around still? Maybe you stashed some Christmas or Valentine’s candy in the fridge/freezer and just remembered it just now? You are not alone.

I am notorious for forgetting about candy and then wasting it when I inevitably find it in the back of the fridge in May or June. This year, I was determined not to be wasteful.

At the beginning of January, I took 5 minutes to separate all leftover Christmas candy into red and green piles.

Just make sure you have really clean hands and two containers to store them in. I like to keep mine in the fridge or freezer so they last longer. Now you’ll have red candies ready to be mixed into cookies and brownies for Valentine’s Day, and green candies ready to do the same for St. Patrick’s Day.

You can’t see it, but there’s red chocolate chips and red M&Ms mixed into that batter!

Pretty easy, huh? Less waste makes me a happy lady!

What do you do to waste less in the kitchen?
